The Development of a Home School
In September 2005, we experienced synergistic serendipity on our LDS Homeschool Leaders Email Group. Ann Agent, a member of the group from Oregon, wanted to find a copy of Reed Benson's doctoral dissertation on homeschooling entitled, The Development of a Home School. Group members tried to help, but since the dissertation is out of print, were unsuccessful. Ann contacted BYU and was able to obtain a pdf copy of the book. Joyce Kinmont, who had other business with Dr. Benson, called him and asked how he would feel about having the book posted online. Graciously, Brother Benson said that would be fine and he didn't want any compensation for it, either.
Ann emailed the pdf copy to LDS-NHA and we posted it on our website immediately. We are excited to be able to bring this classic back to LDS homeschoolers and are grateful to those that helped it happen. We would especially like to thank Reed Benson for his kind permission to post the dissertation free of charge. If you aren't familiar with Reed Benson and his book, you are in for a treat! Be aware if you decide to print it that it is 198 pages.
